Release Teacher
Hello, it is an honour to be here teaching your beautiful children at Matua Ngaru. To give you a background of myself, I have spent my livelihood in the classroom across the Pacific Northwest of Canada since 2015. Areas would include Campbell River, Dolphin Island, Errington, Gold River, Nanaimo, and Shawnigan Lake. This will also be the second school in Aotearoa. The first was to cover maternity leave in Levin. What I love most about this career path is contributing to a student's growth and development. To see them challenged outside of the boundaries of their own interests, and be a risk taker beyond their own comfort levels. My short term goal is to pursue a Masters in Child Psychology, and learn how to support children on a deeper level. Previous to this profession, I was an aesthetician, salon apprentice, athlete, tree planter, camp cook, and optician delegate. Outside of the classroom environment, my interests include, anthropology, arts, ancient history, cooking, indigenous culture, music, travelling, and wildlife protection. I look forward to embarking on this new journey with the Pōpoto team, students, whānau and surrounding community. Ngā mihi, Erin Smith
