Sherryn Cumming

My name is Sherryn Cumming and I am so excited to embark on the magical mystery tour that is waiting for me to discover at Matua Ngaru School. I have been a Kaiawhina for the last 15 years. My love and passion for empowering and inspiring young people to see their worth and believe in themselves is still growing. I began my journey at Kelston Boys High School working in the Supported Learning Department. I spent 13 years with “my boys” and Kelston Whanau before setting off to explore other areas of the education system. I have worked in the Alternative Education Sector since then, my last placement being at Peninsula Primary School in Te Atatu. I’m a very proud Westy and have lived in the Titirangi/Huia area for most of my life. I am a huge advocate for self expression, individuality and marching to your own beat. I love colour and noise and nature, I do not love paper with lines, coriander or any sort of wastefulness. My passions in life are all facets of the Arts, music, cooking, creating, upcycling, the environment, bare feet, silliness and people. My two daughters keep my life full of sparkle and craziness and my amazing husband despite his very logical and calm manner, embraces the chaos that surrounds him and helps me achieve all the artistic and creative ventures I come up with. I have never been employed in a place that embraces diversity, individuality, and self expression until now. I feel like I am home here. I cannot help but be excited about what the future will bring.
